1. General. Pearson Hall is located on the Fairgrounds in Maquoketa, Iowa about 40 miles equidistant from Davenport (to South) on Hiway 61, Dubuque (to North) on Hiway 61, Clinton (to Southeast) via several routes, Sabula, Iowa (to East) on Hiway 64, and about 24 miles Southwest of Bellevue, Iowa via several routes. The fairgrounds is located on the Eastern edge of Maquoketa at the East end of Quarry Street (shown as a RED RECTANGLE on the Maquoketa city map click HERE. The directions and map pages are designed for printing. WARNING - on fair days normal traffic patterns are subject to change, so watch for signs and traffic control personnel as you approach the fairgrounds.
2. From the West via Hiway 64 from Anamosa, Wyoming, etc: Hiway 64 becomes West Platt Street at the ramps to Hiway 61 (North-South) at the light just East of the Walmart store. Continue East through the center of Maquoketa, crossing Main Street (North-South intersect) until about 7 blocks East of Main Street at Anderson Street intersecting East Platt from the North (left). Anderson Street is marked by 2 Fair/museum signs. Turn Left (North) and proceed about 1 block to a ‘T’ intersection with East Quarry Street. Turn right and proceed about 2 1/2 blocks to the parking area at Pearson Hall, a large blue steel building on the South side of the Quarry Street parking area.
3. From the East on Hiway 64 from Preston, Miles, Sabula, Clinton, etc. Hiway 64 becomes East Platt Street on the East end of Maquoketa at the Hiway 64-62 junction with (62 to/from Andrew). To get into the fairgrounds from this intersection, proceed West along the fairgorunds property on East Platt Street until you see a green & white road marker with FAIRGROUNDS and an arrow pointing North (Right). Continue on West to 2 fairgrounds/museum signs (on your right). The next street after is Anderson Street. Turn Right (North) on Anderson and proceed about 1 block to a ‘T’ intersection with East Quarry Street. Turn right and drive about 2 1.\2 blocks to the end of East Quarry Street and enter the fairgrounds parking area in front of Pearson Hall, a large blue steel building on the South side (to your right) of the parking area.
4. From the Northeast via Hiway 62 from Andrew, Bellevue, Lamotte, etc. Hiway 62 comes into Maquoketa at a ‘T’ junction with Hiway 64 (now East Platt Street) coming from Preston (to East). Take the Westbound ramp toward downtown Maquoketa and Anamosa. As you turn onto East Platt Street you heading West, the Fairgrounds property will be on your right. Continue West until on your Right you see a green & white “FAIRGROUNDS” sign with an arrow. Continue on to 2 Fairgrounds/museum signs also on your right. The next street is Anderson Street. Turn Right (North) on Anderson and proceed about 1 block to a ‘T’ intersection with East Quarry Street. Turn right and drive about 2 1.\2 blocks to the end of East Quarry Street and enter the fairgrounds parking area in front of Pearson Hall, a large blue steel building on the South side (to your right) of the parking area.
4. Arriving from the North via Hiway 61 from Garryowen, Dubuque, Galena etc: Proceed South on Hiway 61 until you cross the Maquoketa River South Fork and reach a Left (Southbound) turnoff to Hurstville (Hurstville Road to the East - Esgate Road to the West) about 3 miles North of Maquoketa at the location of the Hurstville Lime Kilns. The restored kilns will be plainly visible on your left and there are signs at the intersection. Carefully cross the Northbound lanes of the Hiway 64 onto Hurstville Road. Stay on Hurstville Road for about 3 miles, crossing the Maquoketa River at the North edge of Maquoketa, until you reach a crossing intersection at East Grove Street. The road into town snakes through here, so bear in mind that Hurstville Road becomes North Main Street after it crosses the river when at the intersection with Grove Street. Keep proceeding South about 2 blocks from the Main and Grove streets intersection to the Quarry Street 4-way intersection at a stop light. On your Right front is the Post Office and to your Left front is Maquoketa State Bank. Turn Left onto East Quarry Street and drive to a stop sign at Walnut Street (about 6 blocks). Proceed straight ahead (East) on Quarry until it dead ends at the fairgrounds parking lot at Pearson Hall, a large blue steel building on the North side (to your right) of the parking area.
If you miss the Hurstville Road turnoff, don’t worry. There are 2 more turnoffs but the safest route is to take the Hiway 64 off-ramp which intersects at a stop light at West Platt Street just East of the Walmart shopping center. Turn Left onto West Platt Street and head East following the directions specified for approaches prescribed for 1. Approaches from the West on Hiway 64 (above) to reach Pearson Hall.
5. From the South via Hiway 61 from DeWitt, Grand Mound, & Quad Cities, etc. Proceed North on Hiway 61 until you reach the FIRST exit ramp into the City of Maquoketa just past the Family Dollar Trans-shipment Center and the Generac generator company building on your left. The off-ramp dead ends at South Main Street. Turn Right (North) and proceed on North on South Main Street to the city center intersection of Platt (East-West) and Main (North-South) Streets (stop light). From this intersection proceed North on Main Street 1 block to the Quarry Street intersection with North Main Street (also light-controlled). On your Left is the Post Office and on your right is the Maquoketa State Bank. Go Right onto East Quarry Street and proceed East about 6 blocks to a stop sign at Walnut Street (North South). Cross Walnut Street and proceed straight East until Quarry Street dead ends at the fairgrounds parking lot at Pearson Hall, a large blue steel building on the North side (to your right) of the parking area.
